Expedia Reviews

Made a reservation on Expedia, using 40% on unraveled hotels, it says "Brand Name" hotel. Just paid more $300 for a local hotel. "Brand name" is well defined in dictionary but not at Expedia. Don't expect to get it. Totally misleading.

Charged even without service
I asked for cancellation of this reservation, almost seconds upon being notified/when the location of the hotel was disclosed, since it was unpublished. The location of the hotel was way out of the distance. The hotel understood the predicament and had no problems with the cancellation. My credit card was charged right away despite expedia being informed and with no services rendered, which I verified from the credit card company. Despite my notifying Expedia of the cancellation,Expedia still send me thefollowing email the next stay, hoping that I would enjoy my stay. Customer service does not listen, they only proceed methodically, but for the real essence of customer service, nil.I was charged 95 dollars not even agreeing to apply the amount as credit for an alternative hotel since I really need a hotel 5 days from the time I made the reservation. I had to pay for another reservation with another company.
Does as advertised.
Expedia performs just as I expect it to perform; It helps plan my vacations by suggesting reasonable fares. Nothing spectacular when compared to other such sites, but it gets the job done.
Expedia Sucks!
Despite having booked a trip to Canada on Expedia, for what I'd thought was a good price - better than I could have done for the hotel/flight combination on my own - I have since found their prices to be far from the lowest, both on airfares to Europe and on hotels. In fact, I just suffered through such a nightmarish experience whilst trying to get their guaranteed price adjustment that I never would use them again. This is what I just wrote on another page here on HelpOwl:It is 1:03 am and I just got off the phone with Expedia. After almost three hours and four agents, I finally got a sniggly $21.00 price adjustment and a $50. coupon, which obligates me to once again patronise a company with the worst customer support I have ever experienced in my life. I only followed it through to the end on principal. Had I known that they would push me to hysterics and back again, I would never have called in the first place. Mind you, I was actually able to "book" the identical fare on identical flights before, during (twice) and after our conversations (or rather, arguments), yet they had the nerve to tell me, alternately, that the flights didn't exist, were full, or that the price had gone up since I saw it. They also refused to honor an earlier offer of a full refund, which had been made by the second agent. (The first agent had assured me, after confirming that the flights were the same, that there would be no problem.) As I write this, there are seats available and the price remains the same. Below Expedia's. I'd rather buy a used car.

Account Closure
I have been trying to close my expedia account for more than 2 days so far without success. The links on the site do not work.phone calls go to India and they cant help and will not give a UK phone number to call.Getting the runaround with E Mails. So unless you really need one dont open an accountwith them because youmight never be able to close it.
United/Continental in Birmingham AL
Stuck in Birmingham AL airport. Flight delayed due to bad weather. Okay, but no notification to waiting passengers, no indication of flight change, no one at boarding gate. Passengers left on their own. United/Continental = Awful service.
Expedia can't get anything right!
Expedia called me 5 weeks after I booked flights with them to tell me there had been a "change" to my reservation. Apparently they had never confirmed with the airline and I had no flights. After 45 min of holding, etc. they said they had it right and would send me a confirmation. Guess what? They did not send it after calling AGAIN and trying to find out what was going on they sent it SIX times and it was WRONG. I had to call the airline to get a refund and who knows if it will go through. Now I have to book more expensive flights 6 wks after I thought I had them. I HATE EXPEDIA AND WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.
Good Service
Expedia is a good booking company. Their website is easy to use and they often have reasonable prices on fares.
I have used Expedia for hotels and it seems to work fine but I WILL Never BOOK a
CAR Rental with them again. They promise customer support but they just use canned lines to every comment or question I ask. We rented a car for $220 and when we went to get it they said it was $335! 50% more. I emailed customer support and got no response and upon return from trip called they said to send my actual bill to them. I did and 10 days later I called to find out about their response and was on hold for 15 minutes and the fellow came back and told me it was the unknown tax and that I'd kept the car for an extra day. Neither was true. The rates can not be`trusted! I will never use Expedia for car rental ...there are no guarantees and without a guarantee you are stuck with whatever they choose to charge you!!

NEVER EVER USE EXPEDIA TO BOOK HOTEL
THEY have the worst customer service ever.!!!!!!!
Keep you on hold 20 minutes and then phone disconnects.
Very hard to understand as they all sound like they are foreigners.

Never book a flight with Expedia unless you are prepared to be ripped off. We had purchased flights with Expedia, only to find out they had never actually booked the reservation. The airline told us we would have to deal with Expedia since it was not a direct booking. Long story short, our credit card issuer had to force Expedia's financial intermediary into crediting us back the money, months later. We tried contacting Expedia customer service several times, asked politely to speak with a supervisor but in each instance were refused and put on hold for long periods of time.

I booked a hotel with Expedia and decided to try their "discounted price where you find out the hotel name afterwards". NEVER EVER EVER DO THIS ON EXPEDIA!!!!!!!!!! They booked me for a hotel that should be CONDEMNED! It was the WORST hotel EVER AND SHOULD BE CLOSED.
EXPEDIA IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED - THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN!! And Customer Service is NO HELP AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!
DON'T USE EXPEDIA

The worst of the worst! Expedia phone representatives treat their jobs like a joke and purposely throw out seat assignments and lie about available options. Long, long hold times and people who barely speak English. Never again.

I had booked AirTran Flights (Milwaukee - Fort Myers, Florida) through Expedia on Feb. 8, 2011. Received a flight cancelation notice via email from expedia right before midnight on Feb. 9 (about 30 hours after I had booked the flights)and had NEVER received an email with a flight confirmation.
Called expedia on Feb. 10, 2011 8am central time and was told that AirTran canceled the flights because the price had gone up.
I was told I would be issued a credit for the flights and the travel insurance I had purchased for those flights.
And I was advised to rebook the flights.
I did not rebook because the fare had gone up by 30%.
I have not received a refund from expedia (it is now 40 days since the cancelation of the flights)although I had called them repeatedly, was put on hold (by agents in some foreign country who seem to read every word they are saying off a script) on and off for over an hour each time while the agent supposedly was contacting her supervisor.
They could NOT give me an explanation why they did not retrun my money although there was never a confirmed flight status issued and they could NOT guarantee that I would get a refund because it is up the the airline AirTran. OUTRAGEOUS!
I will never book through expedia again.

For some reason when Expedia booked my trip from Anchorage, AK to San Juan, PR, they split up my reservation into 2 separate itineraries. The first one contained me, and the second was my wife and kids. At first, the itineraries matched, so there was no real issue with this, but as time went on, it became a huge hassle.
Long story short, Expedia messed up the itinerary for my wife and kids and it took many hours on the phone with Expedia to get things straightened out. I found that it was actually easier to work directly with the airlines instead of Expedia since their representatives are not helpful.
In the end, I had a great vacation, but booking through Expedia was definitely a mistake.
