I have a Versant 80, it is on a lease, the first year I had 30 service calls on the machine, it is a lemon, and Xerox will not do anything about it. I would never use Xerox again

I am a systems administrator for a state government agency. When HP began their decline some years ago, we switched to Xerox and initially were quite happy with the results. Some years have passed and we now have some real world data by which to judge Xerox performance.

Solid ink Phasers have been the most reliable with almost no maintenence needed. Large format Phasers are good for about a year or two and then begin to develop problems - minor at first with deteriorating performance and stamina. Regular Phasers are hit and miss with some being astounding workhorses while others need to be handled with kid gloves. Supplies tend to range from expensive to very expensive.

We have a 7750 phaser that is now throwing an error code 9-456. This error code indicates a engine board replacement is needed. The reason for this replacement is that THIS IS A FLAG THAT IS HARD CODED INTO THE CHIPS AND CAN ONLY BE RESET BY REPLACING THE ENTIRE BOARD. The flag indicates that the developer units SHOULD (not "must") be changed. It is supposed to occur at 500,000 pages but typically happens earlier.

So if you have purchased a 7750, you have purchased a printer that will only run to 500,000 pages at which point you will have to spend $700 to $1500 to make the printer usable again. After a discussion with other IT staff, we have determined that we will no longer buy Xerox products. Ever. We no longer view this company as being reliable, honest, or economically viable.
