Problem with wiring in ignition column causes car to not start.

There is a defect in the wiring from the ignition column to the main computer. To start the car, the computer sends out a signal which passes up to the ignition switch, through the key, and back down to the computer. The key has a built in resistor in the middle. If the resistance of the key matches the value programmed into the computer system then the fuel injectors are powered up and starter can now start the engine. If the computer doesn't receive the correct reading back, then the cars security system is activated, and kills connection to starter and fuel injectors.

Fix #1: Get new ignition, and wiring.

Fix #2: Cut wire (usually orange coated with two white wires inside) running from computer system up to ignition. Get volt meter, and set to ohms (resistance mode). Check the resistance of your key from one side of key to the other using the metal bump on the key surrounded by plastic. Write that number down. Ride your bike to Radio Shack, and say "I need some resistors, to equal this number.", and hand the sales associate the number you wrote down earlier. Ride bike back home. Solder the resistors together, and test with volt meter. If your number matches, solder one end to one of the white wires coming out of computer system, and solder the other end to the other white wire to computer system. Insert key, and turn on, but don't start. Security light should come on for a few seconds, and then turn off. Start car.
