Nothing but trouble
I bought this acer x3400g in May of 2011. It has never functioned properly. Within a very short time of starting this machine it started to crash. It would simply lock up, and require rebooting. I would get the "Blue screen of death" other times. Some times it would simply shut down without warning.Trying to restart this beast could also be a challenge. Often when trying to restart I would push the on button. There would be a whirl of the cooling fan, the "on" light would flicker, and then everything would stop. I could repeat this as many times as my little heart desired, but with no change. It was only when I disconnected the power, and let this thing set for apparently a random amount of time that it would start again.
I have tried restore, several times, but no difference. When rebooting it will sometimes do a restart diagnostic. Each time the result of this diagnostic is that the computer can find nothing wrong with itself.
I have pops in the speakers. I have tried not only the speakers that came with this machine, but another set that I had available. Still the popping continued. This thing will be in sleep mode at night, start playing music from the music folder. No one has touched this thing, it just does this all by itself. It will play for a few minutes, and then return to sleep mode.
I have called tech support multiple times. I have gone through their steps, multiple times. Nothing changes.
I have sent this thing to the acer repair facility in Temple Texas. They say they couldn't find any wrong with it. It was returned, and behaved exactly as before it visited the repair facility.
As noted, I have called the support help line multiple times. Really, why would I have to repeat the same long list of problems multiple times? I know those people can read, why can't they just read my previous complaints. I am currently refusing to answer the same dumb ass questions, and demanding that they look up my previous calls and read it for themselves.
I am now (11/2/11) sending my machine back to Texas. I am insisting that acer pay for shipping this time.
I am absolutely disgusted with acer, their machine, and their service.
And yes, this machine has been checked for virus's. As I have mentioned, this thing started doing this right out of the box. The folks at Yogi did their magic, and were unable to find anything wrong, or any virus. The people at the Texas repair facility didn't find a virus. One of the first things I did was to install Macfee on this machine. It is a damn good virus, if the source of all my troubles are indeed a virus.
