Netgear WNR2200

I have now had this 'Netgear WNR2200' router up and running for about one month with only one problem.

My own experience with computers has involved replacing a hard drive in a laptop and replacing ram and a graphic card in a desktop and doing a clean install of windows XP on different computers but I had never set up a router by myself before but using the supplied 'resource cd' and common sense it was fairly straight.

It is wired to a desktop computer running Windows XP and wireless to four laptops (2 running Windows XP, 2 running Windows 7) and 2 smartphones. These are not all connected and the same time but up to four have been without problems.

Setting up the security using WPA2-PSK [AES] on all of the computers was straight forward. With one of the smartphones I did have to enter the MAC address manually to get it to connect by going into the routers advanced setting but this was easy to do.

The router is downstairs in the living room and we have not had any dropped connections in the bedrooms in a fairly large 3 bed semi. I also took one of the laptops down the garden so I was about 150 feet away from the router although in line of sight of it and still had a decent strength signal.

The 'ReadyShare' feature has already proved useful. This allow you to connect a usb device to the router so that the files on it can be accessed by everyone (wired or wirelessly). Before buying this router I did read about problems people were having using this feature on the 'WNR 2000' (the previous model) some devices were not recognised but I have tried LG, Kingston, Toshiba, Integral memory sticks and three external hard drives 2 western digital and a toshiba without issue.

Finally, the only problem I have had is with getting my printer a HP Photosmart 8450 to work correctly on the wireless network. The laptops with Windows 7 work fine but with XP I can only get the printing to work if I install the drivers each time I need to print!

Overall I am happy with my purchase but it is early days yet.
