Bosch HD17152U Oven door won't unlock Error Code 41 Christmas Morning
We set the oven on self clean and two minutes later it said Code 41 and the oven door would not unlock no matter what we did. We waited two hours for the oven's programmed brain to reset but the oven remained locked. We got no help from Bosch because, of course, their technicians are all on holiday since no one ever cooks with a Bosch oven on Christmas.We got a hint of a solution from a posting regarding another brand oven that the lock on that oven had been opened by using a bent coat hanger so we tried that.
The latch on this model is a hook and slot. The hook is mounted on the oven body opposite the center of the door just below the top of the door and juts out toward the door. The hook points to the right as you face the oven door. The slot is at the center top of the door about 3/8 inch down, the slot is itself about one half inch tall and about 1 1/2 inch long. When the latch locks in the slot it travels to the right and latches behind the right wall of the slot.
To disengage the hook from the slot take a thin coat hanger and unwrap the hanger's hook from its shaft. Straighten the hook so that you have about three inches of straightened wire and bend the last inch down about ninety degrees. Insert the hanger end with the new hook about three inches to the right of the center of the door. Pivot the hook down ninety degrees and holding the hanger steady move the hanger to the left so that it will engage the latching hook with the hanger coming from the right side of the door. When the hanger end hits resistance, push steadily until the latch disengages. You may want to push the door in gently as you try to disengage the latch, and then, when you feel the latch move, gently pull the door open.
Because I couldn't tell whether the latch was going to engage again or not when I shut the door, I manually moved the latch all the way to the left in its slot and inserted three small steel screws into the opening that the latching hook rides in. I screwed them in so that they pinned the latch in the open position.
Call your Bosch dealer and tell them that this example of unforgiving German engineering is an unacceptable defect in a civilian stove. It should either be impossible for your stove to lock against your will or there should be a manual release so that you can unlock your oven door when it goes insane.
