Bose 901 Series IV Reviews
Alanjai.... December 15th, 2012
33 years of Bose 901 Series IV
I have used mine for 33 years what else needs to be said! They have a deep rich base (subs are not needed for the average user and in-fact even a 10" powered sub from Energy tended to 'muddy' the Bose bass so I got rid of it). I used them for the 1st 5 years as DJ at small venues with no complaints. The only two problems really is that they are extremely sensitive to their placement and they are week in the mid-range (vocals) I have paired them with things like KEF's to pick up to add impact here.
They can withstand a lot of power (often 500W RMS (each, or more) for extended shows. I had the suspensions replaced a decade ago and will need to again soon. If you are considering buying used ones be aware: By now you can bet that the custom parametric EQ will be needing a re-cap or the highs will be dreadful! Also, although the bass is clean and rich-- they don't have 'punch'. They do not thump on mid-base as many subs do these days! (ie. You 'Hip-Hop guys will likely be disappointed).
I have never regretted this rather expensive purchase and even today, most everyone are impressed with the sound (of music) ;)
Although very capable for home-theatre, because of the required special EQ they can be difficult to integrate into a multi-channel system.
