PowerVault 120T DDS4 with Amanda and Ubuntu/OpenBSD
I have had a PowerVault 120T DDS4 drive for over 5 years. I have Amanda server on Ubuntu, and use it to back up OpenBSD on Sun servers in a colo. Originally, I used it with DDS3 tapes, and now with DDS4.It took a while to configure Amanda right, but it works very well. It backs up one tape per night, with changed data from each of three servers. I have recovered single files, whole drives and complete servers over the years. Occasionally tapes die and have to be replaced. I have a separate stand-alone drive to use for restores.
I believe there is a Windows Amanda client, but I never used it. I back up Windows machines onto DVD or external HD anyway.
