Something has changed

For a couple of years I have been storing jpg files on the humax, using USB for transfer. All the old files play as slideshows. Suddenly, the humax fails to recognise jpg files on USB, so no more slideshows. Humax advise using smaller files or a different USB. Neither of these works.
Has there been a system upgrade that has affected USB file recognition?
