The Circuit Board went bad at 30 months old

I was so thrilled when I got a new refrigerator ($2300) for my new 55+ plus house. 30 months later the refrigerator didn't cool. Turns out the electronic circuit board went bad which turned the compressor off. The repair was $800. Those circuit boards are $$$!. Turns out that KitchenAid is mfg. by Whirlpool Corp-- The refrigerator was out of mfg. warranty and they OFFERED me a $300+ service plan to "save" me on future costs. Why would I think a brand new refrig. would go bad in less than 7 years??? I've now had 2 Whirlpool Corp. products go bad in less than 4 years. I'll not buy another.
