Maytag MEDX500XW Reviews

.... November 25th, 2016

Sadly, not the quality that one would expect from a Maytag.

I can't even give it a single star. I was so excite to finally own a Maytag; what a big disappointment. It lasted two years. Single person household, light usage, and two years service before it quit on me. Shame on you Maytag for making me believe all your hype for so many years...way to sucker an old woman out of her hard earned cash.

Major Design Flaws -- Design Engineer Apparently Never Did a Load of Laundry

I have owned the Maytag MEDX500XW for about two years. This "energy saving" dryer simply shuts off before the clothes are dry -- so, if they are not immediately removed from the bin and hung up to dry the rest of the way, there could be mildew issues. As a result, I routinely set the dryer to a setting that runs a little longer - which often still results in not-yet-dry loads. This offsets any expected "energy savings." Also, when drying sheets or tablecloths or similar large, flat items, they tend to wrap themselves up around smaller items - such as undies, t-shirts, or towels especially - during the drying cycle. The items caught within often are not at all dry and come out of the dryer just about as wet as when they went in. Fitted sheets are especially problematic, as small items get caught in the fitted corners. I have accommodated this issue by carefully sorting items to go in the dryer into multiple loads -- and, again, compromising any "energy savings." Finally the top of this appliance is not flat: it slopes downward toward its front. Don't plan on setting or storing a laundry basket, jug of bleach or detergent, or anything else on its top - as it could easily slide off during a drying cycle, sometimes quite a while after the item was placed there. A heavy object could injure or even possibly kill a small child or pet.
