Love My Pfaff 213 Sewing Machine!

My Pfaff 213 sewing machine has been a dream workhorse. It has sewn miles of stitches in the thirty years I have owned it. I bought it from a retailer when it was four years old. It replaced my Singer zig zag machine I got new in 1969. I wanted something tougher and more convenient to operate. I got it.

Most of my projects have been home decor items like table runners, placemats, pillows, curtains, appliquéd quilts, window seat cushions, pet crate covers and giant dog beds, although I have made some costumes and clothing, too. My Pfaff 213 has been sturdy and steadfast through it all. No parts have ever cracked or broken and no repairs have ever been required.

The placement of the controls and the layout of the Pfaff 213 make it easy to thread, and operate. The buttonholer, bobbin winder, stitch selections and reverse work smoothly. The feed dogs may be dropped for quilting or darning. The motor is very powerful so the machine is capable of sewing very quickly for a domestic machine and sews consistently for extended periods of time. The speed of the machine is adjustable down to a very slow speed for projects requiring special handling. This is nearly an all-metal machine, so it is heavy and stays in place during operation. There are quieter machines, but there are louder machines, too. This one is rugged with a medium volume.

The bobbin mechanism is a cinch to access and clean as are other mechanical parts of the machine making it easy to oil and maintain. Professional servicing for basic maintenance only requires a generic sewing machine repair person. Copies of the Pfaff 213 ownerâA533;A533;s manual are available online.

My machine came with plenty of presser feet and bobbins which are very helpful. Special accessories can add value since a few may be a challenge to locate or may simply add to the initial cost. Fortunately, all the cams and the buttonholer are built-in on the Pfaff 213 and it uses standard needles which may be purchased at any sewing supply center. From economy threads to the best threads, all have worked in my machine, although I prefer using the best which tend to leave less lint behind.

In people terms, my Pfaff 213 sewing machine is a reliable team player that embraces every challenge and always gets the job done. After many years of use, it is still the dream it was when I bought it decades ago!

My 1980 model 213 pfaff

Still have same machine. Still working great. The only problem I ever had was upper thread tension. Occasionally I have to patiently adjust, tweak, and keep test sewing to get a perfect stitch. I love the ease of use, the serviceability it has given me. It doesnt have all the bells and whistles like today's electronic ones, but they would never last like my trusty old pfaff!! Better than the $4,000 Singer that I actually gave away because it kept breaking down. Never buy a Singer, their quality tanked years ago.
