Great little trimmer but keep it serviced

I bought this trimmer used and got it practically new because the strings had broken off and wouldn't pull through. I read all the reviews and thought I had made a bad purchase but I have to say after 2 seasons, this was well worth what I paid. Lube the ratchet system by spraying lubricant in the holes where you feed the string. The little ratchets in there will rust and freeze in place or will not slide easily causing problems. As long as you hit the primer bulb 10 times before you crank it fires right up. Prime when warm too but don't use the choke.

Light weight and easy

I love this trimmer. Its so easy to use. Im 60 years old, and short. With this trimmer I can push it any where, and its so easy to feed new line in. My favorite tool.

Difference in fuel tanks

I bought my RY13010 about 6 months ago, after shaft seal replacement, with less than 2 hrs. use, fixed under warrenty, it works well. I see on later models the fuel filler neck faces the rear of trimmer instead the front on mine, this makes refueling harder and messier. Will the later modle tank fit mine, and if so how can I get one? Refuling would much easier. Thank you. BUDD.

Great Idea. Poor Quality. Ryobi 13010 "T430" 4 Cycle Wheeled Trimmer

For the last two years I have been paying neighborhood kids to weed-eat my yard. Due to arthritis issues I can no longer hold a traditional weed trimmer to trim my 3 acres. Last December, my wife and I were in Gatlinburg, TN and I saw this GREAT little weed trimmer on wheels at one of the Tool Outlet stores. Finally, I thought, I can do the trimming myself again. The first time using this unit I was tickled to death at the ease of operation. Then during and after the second use, I had one problem after another everytime I used (or tried to use)this unit. The problems I've had (not necessarily in this order) are: String gets stuck before coming through exit side. String sometimes doesn't get stuck but will not "lock" in. Knob on bottom is "reverse" thread, but no one nor the manual tells you this, resulting in stripping out the plastic bump knob and having to cut it off. (No replacement is available)I had to fabricate a replacement. Next, like others have complained, this unit is stubborn to start after warm up. (Don't turn it off or let it stall out until you are completely finished. You will regret it) Next problem, the pull rope mechanism sometimes just spins when pulling. I have found that "tapping" lightly with a hammer will re-engage the mechanism to turn the motor when pulling the rope. (be sure to attach a hammer holster to the handle of this unit). Next problem, the flexible "rod" inside the shaft that accepts the "rod" from the trimmer head attachment tends to slide upwards toward the motor head, causing it to pull away from the trimmer head so that when accelorating the motor, the trimmer head does not turn. (You must take the motor completely off and drive the flexible rod back down toward the trimmer head. Again using the on-board hammer). Next problem, the screw handle that tightens and holds the trimmer shaft in place strips out very easily. (I had to throw it away as again, no replacement is available. I have a 2" C-clamp in its place) Reminder: This unit was bought in December, and not used until this Spring. Used 8 times. Next Problem, Unit has quit working all together. Will not crank, or if it does crank, it will only idle. If try to accelarate, the unit will stall out. After reviewing "Troubleshooting" in the manual I decided to replace the plug as instructed in the manual. The problem with this is........NO ONE HAS THIS PLUG. I have been to 3 large reputable local small engine repair stores today, plus Tractor supply, The Co-op, O'Reillys, AutoZone, Wal-Mart, and a local Hardware Store. No one has it and one place "thinks" they can get one from Nashville in a couple of days. Not even sure this will fix the problem or prevent the "next" problem that may be coming, as each time since the first use I have had to spend at least an hour to all day getting it fixed or repaired to do the job at hand. I, as maybe YOU, will probably be better off to buy another trimmer with a different NAME. I offer my sympathy if you are reading this POST-purchase.
