Vizio E550VA issues

I bought this tv back in November 2010 because Dell had it for an incredibly low price during Cyber Monday. From day one, I had issues with the tv syncing up with the cable box. I get a "Invalid Format" or "No Signal" message that pops up and I have to turn it off and on until it finally displays the picture. I could live with that though because the picture quality is excellent. Recently, August 2012, I have had issues with the volume fluctuating. Sometimes I have to turn the volume up to 35 to hear it, only to have the volume gradually increase and become too loud. Or I can have the volume at 2 but it's like the volume is set to 25. I called Vizio tech support, WHAT A JOKE!!! TO sum it up, they told me there was a firmware update for the volume fluctuation, but refused to send it to me until THEY determined it wasn't the cable box. How backwards is that, if you have an updated firmware, obviously it's because you concede there is a problem with the tv. I have had two other tvs with this same cable box and never had this issue. They went as far as to suggest that the cable company had updated the firmware remotely to the cable box, and that was probably the cause of the problem. Needless to say, in the future, I will spend the extra money to buy a proven quality brand name, like Sony or Samsung and not settle because of price.
