EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS
I bought an eMachines system because I wanted something where I could read medical references easily (not a netbook) without worrying about it being stolen. I mean, it's cheap, who would steal one, right? But I didn't expect it to be sturdy.Imagine my surprise when I took my eMachines through a grueling 12-hr bus and jeepney ride to the Mountain Provinces in the Philippines, in a tightly crammed backpack... I enter the 3-star hotel where we stayed, I turn the thing on, AND IT WORKS! Not only that, it lasted a good ~5 hrs on a Windows 7 balanced power scheme, with WiFi off and I got a graphics and 3D Windows Experience Index rating of 5.7. The thing performs quite well and is actually more durable than expected. I was pleasantly surprised that this 22-thousand-Philippine-Peso notebook could be of good quality. Kudos to eMachines for their adherence to their philosophy. May Sony follow suit, as their customers pay a LOT.
As for the usual more Windows-related concerns, these concerns are reduced in number in Windows 7 and can often be remedied by a good antivirus and firewall like COMODO Internet Security. Imagine how cool this thing would be running Linux? :)
