Nikon OTP-2011R Reviews
I'm extremely happy with this gem in the cheap.
To be honest, I didn't expect much from this unit since it was so cheap. But it surprised me..The main reason I picked this unit was that it's small enough for my bedroom - only 20" in diameter, and the speakers are on the bottom. And it's light enough that I can use the cheap $40 wall mounts to hang this up near the ceiling for viewing while in bed. Anything heavier than 20 lbs and you would need those $90 brackets just to make sure it doesn't fall down and tear a hole in the wall and the floor.
For normal TV view with a digital cable box hookup (not HDTV box), this LCD does a pretty good job. The pictures appear correct right out of the box with no adjustments needed. The speakers surprised me. I figured they would be cheap PC grade speakers. They actually sound like quality grade PC speakers - still sucks compares to a theater system, but respectable for a TV unit. This unit has a PC speaker out socket so you can hook up one of those PC speaker systems with subwoofers and what-not.
I currently have the video in on a cable antenna connection. But reading the specifications here (the manual's sparse), I noticed that it can do 480p. I'm going to order the HDTV cable box and attach it via the component video inputs and see what kind of picture I get. I know the "experts" will say use HDMI for HDTV experience, not component video. But this unit doesn't have HDMI and doesn't support 720p, so cheaper component video will do. Besides, I have a Panasonic TV that's 720p and 1080i and I don't see any difference right now between component video and HDMI.
The only thing I don't like about this unit is that the remote is not automatically recognizable by the cable remote. I need to program a universal remote for this TV/Cable combo.
Overall, I'm extremely happy with this gem in the cheap.
