Outstanding Performance - A Day-and-Night difference in speed compared to the -G.
I have used the MC9090-Z for over six months now. I immediately noticed a difference in tag inventory speed compared to the MC9090-G we had borrowed from another division to assess our needs before purchasing our own. The increased output power for reading tags is what I attribute to the -Z being able to read RFID tags in our data center even with the cabinet doors closed. With the -G, I had to open each cabinet door and slowly scan the reader up and down at least two times to ensure each tag was read (with an average of 10 tags per rack). The only down side I found is our borrowed -G model was running Win Mobile 5.0 and the -Z runs on 6.0+ - the in-house software the other division wrote will not run on the -Z but once I downloaded the EMDK, it was extremely simple to modify one of the sample programs to meet our needs - even with my extremely limited experience with Visual Basic and no experience in C++.I can now go through our entire data center and inventory over 2500 assets in less than 30 minutes - a task which took 3 months to do manually this past summer!
Well worth the price - be sure to purchase a support package so you can download the re-image files for when you mess up the configuration trying out applications - and use a total backup solution for quick returns to known good states when developing your application. I found SPB Backup to be phenominal for this task - complete restores in less than 10 minutes speed up development significantly!
