RCA 4304A "profiling requires 20mb of free space, shutting down FIX
Restoring RCA M4304A Recorder FirmwareSymtom: recorder shows OPAL splash screen, then shows "profiling requires 20mb of free space, shutting down" and then shuts down. Recorder cannot be accessed by windows or the RCA easyrip software.
Solution: Use the firmware update found here: http://www.voxxsupport.com/images/downloads/OPAL_066F_85A4_85A5_0_1140_SIG.EXE
This update needs to be ran on an xp computer running 32 bit OS. It was tested in a Win 7 64bit machine and proven to not work.
Necessary steps taken to get the firmware to properly restore were as follows:
1. Hold in the power (menu) button for 10 seconds (the splash screen will show and it will give the error message, ignore it)
2. While still holding the power button, press the play/pause button and hold down.
3. Release the power button while still holding down the play/pause button and wait 5 seconds.
4. While still holding the play/pause button plug in the usb cable to the recorder. Continue to hold the play/pause button for another 5 seconds after plugging the cable in.
5. Release the play pause button then launch the EXE for the firmware update. Minimize the instruction screen so you can see the full update screen.
6. Leave the format checkbox checked (check it if it isn�t checked) formatting is crucial to this working.
7. Once the status in the update window changes from initializing to ready click start to update the recorder. It will go through formatting, then updating.
8. Once the status shows complete disconnect the recorder and with any luck the recorder is usable again. The media files will obviously have to be reloaded, but the recording is functional at least.

VERY DISSAPOINTING!!
I liked it when I first got it but I too downloaded itunes I purchased and some of my own cd's and it won't start up. It sticks on building data base. If you know there is a definate problem with this mp3 player (which is obvious due to the number of similar complaints on the internet)don't you think it's your responsibility to develope a solution or refund our money. Obviously the program has a flaw. If you want us to continue to purchase RCA products you have to honor the reliability of your product.Very frustrating!!

RCA M4304-A MP3 Player is the Worst
Buttons are touchy and feel cheapAlways gets stuck at start up
RCA support is terrible. They tell you to reset by holding start button for 10 seconds and if that does not work update firmware and supplied software. I have done that at least 5 times and the problem continues.
Lititrue claims product supports playlists however if you follow the directions all it does is try to add the songs in the playlist to the device rather than create a playlist file. Tech supports solution...update firmware and software. Next time I'll buy an ipod, more money (not much paid $50 for the RCA) but they work. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
