Samsung SF 565P Reviews
The Bottom Line: Look elsewhere for your multifunction needs
Pros:Relatively small footprint, external phone handset, toner-save functionCons:Feed rollers, expense of toner/drum cartridge, power-draw, very poor print quality
The Bottom Line: Look elsewhere for your multifunction needs. This one gets just about everything wrong.
I have owned the SF-565P for about two years or so. I was excited at the opportunity to replace it today with the Samsung CLX-3160FN, which turned into a disaster (I have reviewed that one as well). When I think about it, I don't know why I did not scrap the SF-565P ages ago, but looks like I'm stuck with it for a while longer.
First, some pro's. It'll be brief...
The footprint for this multifunction is relatively small, though there are certainly smaller units out there.
The external handset is definitely handy when you need it, though that is rare.
I was happy to see a "toner-save" function which supposedly extends the life of your toner cartridge.
Now, for the the negatives. I have several concerns for this multifunction.
The cost of the toner/drum cartridge for this multifunction is much higher than you might expect based on the low price the printer unit now goes for in stores (now between $200-300 in most places). Prices will vary, but it has been approximately $90 for a toner/drum cartridge each time I have had to replace it.
The feed rollers are VERY touchy and tend to jam on anything irregular from an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper. Forget about running any kind of postcard through. And anything smaller than that, just don't even try it. The paper-separator to make the feed rollers pull a single page at a time in the case of a multi-page fax is not good, either. It sure does make faxing frustrating when you need to cancel the fax and restart several times due to two pages getting pulled through the feed rollers mid-way through.
