Sony KP-43T90 Reviews

.... June 11th, 2011

The Good, the bad and the Ugly

The Good:
1. Excellent viewing quality, even from 25 feet away.
2. Thinner and lighter than most models of the same viewing size.
3. Wider viewing angle (vertical- 55 degrees and horizontal- 130 degrees)
4. Even with the big screen, unlike similar models, very easy to move because it is lighter...approx. 140lbs
5. Minimum viewing distance is only 6 feet.
6. There's a bunch of inputs available both in the front and back of the set. This is great for a gadget enthusiast that wants to hook up and test different media players or the occasional gaming console without having to go around back.

The Bad
1. PICTURE, BRIGHTNESS, and SHARPNESS may need to be adjusted since the factory settings for same are pretty poor.
2. Whilst the sound quality and the level of adjustment available for treble and bass is phenomenal, the speakers aren't able to keep up with the output capabilities of the set i.e don't expect ground shaking rumbling from this set.
3. Placing the TV on the floor gives an adequate viewing angle from just about any sofa or lazy-boy chair, but you may want to invest in a TV stand that takes it up no more than 2-3 feet, viewing angle is improved and now you have a solution for cabling external input devices neatly.

The Ugly
Arguably, there is nothing ugly about this TV, there are no sharp edges to catch on anything, the weight to size ratio is well within tolerance....just two things bug me.....
1. As with any set to which little kids are exposed - there are little hand prints all over the screen which are a pain to clean, the don't show when the set is on mind you (not unless you've got a chocolate hand print) its when the set is off they become a real eyesore, destroying the aesthetics of the set.
2. Yes there are S-video inputs and yes there is such a thing as an HDMI to S-video adapter.....but why oh why didn't they put an HDMI port as one of the inputs is just beyond me!!
Other:

Overall, you get what you pay for a television set that is well worth the price. If you're not part of the pack that always has to have the latest and the greatest, you'll get a set that'll give you years and years worth of excellent picture quality at a really excellent price.
